Implementation of Northeast Ocean Plan Underway

Jan. 19, 2017

The Northeast Regional Planning Body (RPB) announced that the final version of the Northeast Ocean Plan is available, along with a plan adoption memo signed by federal, state, tribal, and New England Fishery Management Council members of the RPB (as well as federal principals of the National Ocean Council). One aspect of the Northeast Ocean Plan is energy, in this case infrastructure for fossil fuel sources (such as natural gas pipelines) or electricity transmission and the potential for renewable energy. The plan was developed after years of public engagement, scientific study and data analysis, and feedback from the general public. The National Ocean Council certified the plan as consistent with the National Ocean Policy on December 1, 2016. The Energy Department participated in developing the plan.
