From Dust Bowl to Turbines, the Value of the Wind Has Changed for Kansas Farmers

May 27, 2017

The Hutchinson News reported on the economic benefits realized by rural residents in Kansas with wind farms in their counties. Wichita County Economic Development officials reached out to 16 wind farm developers in 2001, hoping to attract development to their rural area. At that time, only two developers responded, and another 7 years passed before a wind farm came online in Wichita County. Today, the wind farm provides employment and has also resulted in more than $270,000 in payments to the county. "It's been great to have the wind farm here," said Diane Kirk, economic development director for Wichita County. "It is good for the farmers, it is good for the community."
