Wind Project Brings Savings to Block Island

The community of Block Island off the coast of Rhode Island recently turned off its diesel generators and became powered by the nation’s first offshore wind farm. According to Jeffrey Wright of the Block Island Power Company, back-up generators have remained idle since then, and utility bills show that island ratepayers are saving money since the wind project came online.
