First Floating Wind Farm Delivers Electricity

Oct. 18, 2017

Hywind Scotland, the world’s first floating offshore wind farm, is delivering electricity to the Scottish grid. Developed by Statoil, a Norwegian corporation known for offshore oil drilling, the 30-megawatt project will demonstrate that offshore wind energy can be harvested in deep waters miles away from land, where installing giant turbines with fixed-bottom foundations was once impractical or uneconomical. At peak capacity, the wind farm will produce enough electricity to power 20,000 Scottish homes. Learn more about a renewable future for the oil and gas industry.
