Facebook to Buy Renewable Energy from Nebraska Wind Project

Oct. 23, 2017

The Omaha World-Herald reports that Facebook’s new 1 million square foot data center near Papillion, Nebraska, “breathed new life into a dormant wind development project” in the northeast part of the state. In 2013, Tradewind Energy announced plans to develop the 200-megawatt Rattlesnake Creek wind project in Dixon County. When a buyer could not be found in time to take advantage of federal tax credits, the project was placed on hold. With Facebook’s commitment to purchase power for its new data center, the project will now be 320 megawatts. Facebook will purchase 200 megawatts of power and other buyers will purchase 120 megawatts.
