High Winds Bring Milestone for Iowa Utility

Oct. 28, 2017

The Des Moines Register reports that on October 23 and 24, strong winds resulted in wind turbines providing enough power to meet the energy needs of all of MidAmerican Energy’s customers in Iowa for 2 days. The utility’s goal is to eventually produce 100% of its power with renewable resources, and the company is upgrading its old wind turbines and installing new ones to achieve that vision. In related news, high winds in New York State on October 30 resulted in a wind power production record of 1,622 megawatts, or 12% of the energy generated in the state.
