Maryland Energy Administration Allocates $1 Million for Offshore Wind Grants

May 3, 2017

The Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) announced that $600,000 will be made available for the Fiscal Year 2018 Offshore Wind Business Development Grant Program to support Maryland's emerging businesses, including minority-owned emerging businesses looking to participate in the global offshore wind industry. MEA seeks to jumpstart Maryland's offshore wind supply chain by providing grant funding to help offset upfront barrier costs in two key areas: market entry assistance and capital expenditures and facilities upgrades.

MEA also requested that $400,000 be made available for the Offshore Wind Workforce Development Grant Program for Fiscal Year 2018. The funding will help to ensure that "Maryland has a ready and able workforce capable of contributing to the construction, installation, and operations and maintenance of an offshore wind energy project." Applications for both programs are due September 1, 2017.
