Bigger, and Fewer, Turbines Planned for Apple's Oregon Wind Farm
May 19, 2017
The Portland Business Journal reports that Avangrid Renewables, project developer for the Montague Wind Power Facility in Oregon, is seeking a permit amendment to use a turbine model with a generating capacity of 3.6 megawatts, a "big step up from the most powerful turbines spinning in the Northwest today, which can crank out 2.5 megawatts." Apple expects 560,000 megawatt-hours of electricity annually from its portion of the wind farm, which equals the electricity usage of approximately 52,000 Oregon households.
