Jan. 15, 2018
The Southern New England Offshore Wind Energy Science Forum featured research taking place at the Block Island Wind Farm off the coast of Rhode Island to improve the management and development of offshore wind energy. Presenters at the 2-day forum in December 2017 at the University of Rhode Island discussed the priority research topics of interest to resource users (i.e., fishermen, municipalities, and recreational boaters) and state and federal regulators. Federal agencies represented were BOEM, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Fisheries, and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Topics included the effects of the construction and operation of offshore wind farms on habitat, fish, marine mammals, avian species, and people. Presentations and a webcast of the forum are available for viewing.
